Latest Road to the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard Rankings & Prep Races Schedule

The 142nd running of the $2,000,000.00 Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands is scheduled to take place this year at Churchill Downs on Saturday May 7th. For the fourth year in a row, a tiered point system in a series of races will decide which horses will be running in America’s most famous horse race.
We can start by taking a look at those who have already managed to collect points in the Road to the Kentucky Derby series of races. These races have taken place at various major racecourses over the past few months, the first of which was the Iroquois race at Churchill Downs on September 12th, 2015. Since then, 18 more races have taken place and a further 16 more races will be taking place from now until April 16th.
So far there are 9 horses who all have all have just 1 point on the Road to the Kentucky Derby leaderboard. A total of 13 horses all have 2 points. A total of 4 horses all have 4 points and 2 individual horses have racked up 6 points. 1 horse has 8 points and 6 horses all have 10 points, which brings us up to number 10 on the leaderboard.
At number 10 right now is Mo Tom with 12 points. At number 9 is Swipe, also with 12 points. In 8th on the leaderboard is Greenpointcrusader with 14 points and in 7th is Brody’s Cause, also with 14 points. Flexibility is in 6th place right now with 15 points. In 5th place with 16 points is Exaggerator and in 4th is Sunny Ridge with 18 points. Mohaymen is currently in 3rd place with 20 points. Mor Spirit is in 2nd place with 24 points and at the top of the leaderboard right now is Nyquist with 30 points.
The next event is Risen Star and this event which will take place at Fair Grounds on February 20th. The winner of this race will receive 50 points, 2nd place will receive 20 points, 3rd place will receive 10 points and fourth place will receive 5 points (50-20-10-5). Other upcoming events include Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park on February 27th (50-20-10-5), Gotham at Aqueduct on March 5th (50-20-10-5) and the Tampa Bay Derby on March 12th (50-20-10-5).
Also on March 12th keep an eye out for the San Felipe at Santa Anita Park (50-20-10-5). On March 19th is the Rebel at Oaklawn Lawn Park (50-20-10-5). The Sunland Derby is taking place on March 20th at Sunland Park (50-20-10-5). On March 26th it’s the UAE Derby at Meydan Racecourse (100-40-20-10) and also on this same day it’s the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds (100-40-20-10).
On April 2nd it’s the Spiral at Turfway Park (50-20-10-5) and the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park (100-40-20-10). The Wood Memorial at Aqueduct will take place on April 9th (100-40-20-10). Also on this same day it’s the Blue Grass at Keeneland (100-40-20-10) and the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park (100-40-20-10). Finally, we have the Arkansas Derby to look forward to on April 16th at Oaklawn Park (100-40-20-10) and the Lexington at Keeneland (10-4-2-1).
