American Pharaoh is Back from Injury

The 2014 champion two-year-old male American Pharaoh recently returned from an injury sustained just before the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and returned to Santa Anita on Monday morning. American Pharaoh was ridden by American jockey Martin Garcia who managed three furlongs on the fast track in a good time. Trainer Bob Baffert has said that the Rebel (G2) at Oaklawn on March 14th will be his official comeback.
The leaderboard in The Road to the Kentucky Derby series of races has a total of 40 horses who have earned at least one point so far. Another Lemon Drop, Flashaway, Classy Class, Tough Customer, St. Joe Bay, Juan and Bina, Bench Warrant, Danny Boy, Private Prospect, Lord Nelson and The Great War have all earned themselves 1 point.
Tiznow R J, General Bellamy, Eagle, Hollywood Critic, Keen Ice, Hashtag Bourbon, The Truth or Else and Bluegrass Singer all have 2 points. Rock Shandy, War Story, Nasa, Firing Line, Imperia, Bayerd and Conquest Storm all have 4 points. Bold Conquest has 6 points. Frosted has 8 points. Lucky Player, Dortmund, Daredevil, American Pharaoh and Ocho Ocho Ocho all have 10 points.
Far Right, Mr Z. and Texas Red all have 12 points. Carpe Diem has 14 points. Upstart has 16 points and both International Star and El Kabeir are currently tied at the top of the leaderboard on 21 points. Also still to come in the Road to the Kentucky Derby series of races include Withers on February 7th at Aqueduct and the Robert B. Lewis, also on February 7th at Santa Anita Park.
On February 14th is the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate. At Oaklawn Park on February 16th is the Southwest. The Fountain of Youth will take place at Gulfstream Park on February 21st. Also on the 21st is the Risen Star at Fair Grounds. On March 7th is the Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay. Also on the 7th is Gotham at Aqueduct, then Rebel on the 14th at Oaklawn Park, Spiral on March 21st at Turfway Park and then Sunland Derby at Sunland Park on March 22nd.
As we edge closer towards the main event, the UAE Derby will take place on March 28th at Meydan. Also on this same day will be the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park and the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds. On April 4th is the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct, as well as the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park and the Blue Grass at Keeneland. Then there’s the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park on April 11th and Lexington at Keeneland.
